Neighborhood Description You don't have to try very hard to find a reason to visit Woodlawn. The neighborhood's borders contained the majority of 1893's World's Columbian Exposition, and while few of the Fair's buildings are still standing, it is still a popular destination for history buffs that like to walk the grounds and imagine what it was like to take part in one of Chicago's greatest events. The neighborhood also has great access to Lake Michigan. The 63rd Street Beach Bathing Pavilion, which was completed in 1919, is a popular gathering place that "boasts a promenade, two courtyards, and an impressive view of the lake and skyline."
